Macro Series

Sitting between the artist’s landscape photography and oil paintings is the Macro Series—a collection   of digital works and Giclée prints that bridges both worlds.

For over 14 years, Ladoza has explored the intricate surfaces of oil paintings through unique macro photography techniques. By designing and constructing custom rigs, he is able to photograph the surface of their paintings at various stages of completion, uncovering compositions and fascinating details hidden within the textures of the paint. These discoveries are then transformed into large-format archival prints, revealing a new dimension of the original artworks.

Drawing upon a deep understanding of landscape photography, Ladoza applies similar methods of observation, composition, and post-production to this series. The process of seeking out detail—whether in nature or within a brushstroke—creates a dialogue between mediums that continually influences his creative practice.

The Macro Series has, in turn, reshaped the Ladoza’s approach to landscape photography, inspiring a renewed way of seeing and interpreting the natural world. This passion for merging mediums, techniques, and tools ultimately led to the creation of the Artist Walk film project, which can be viewed on the Projects menu page above.
