Occupying the liminal space between my landscape photography and oil paintings, the Macro Series is an ongoing body of digital works and Giclée prints that actively bridges both practices.

For over 14 years, I have interrogated the physical topology of my paintings using specialized macro photography techniques. By designing and building custom capture rigs, I document the canvas surface at pivotal stages of completion—excavating autonomous micro-landscapes and subtle gestural dynamics embedded within the paint's texture. I scale these microscopic encounters into large-format archival prints, transforming transient moments of process into monumental works that expose an entirely new dimension of the original piece.

My methodology relies heavily on the vernacular of traditional landscape photography. I apply those same rhythms of patient observation, spatial framing, and precise post-production to the canvas itself. This act of seeking out detail—whether surveying a vast terrain or dissecting a single brushstroke—generates a continuous dialogue between mediums that fundamentally drives my studio practice.

Reciprocally, the Macro Series has recontextualized how I engage with outdoor landscape photography, offering a renewed framework for reading and translating the natural world.
